Return To Sport - Advanced Testing and Assessment

What Is Return To Sport

At Vertical Sports Physical Therapy, we are very passionate about restoring active adults and athletes back to their prior performance levels, or in some cases, the best they’ve ever been.

The truth is - almost every active adult or athlete rehabs their injury to 70-80% - and then they stop.

The reason for this, is that once you can run, jump and move pain free there doesn’t seem to be a reason to continue the rehab process. However, this could not be further from the truth. Stopping your rehab process early leaves you at risk for further injury, future injury and a high likelihood that you never achieve peak performance.

Our Movement Experts use the tests and processes necessary to ensure that you are truly ready to compete physically and confidently.

Why Is Return To Sport Important?

  • Limb Symmetry - There is an extremely high chance that even after doing a basic physical therapy regimen, your injured limb is less than 90% equal to your un-injured side. We make sure its 100%.

  • Equal Force Production - Whether you want to go hiking or you play basketball professionally, movement requires equal force generation for optimal performance.

  • Equal Plyometric Performance - Similar to the above, you need minimum 90% limb symmetry in range, strength and performance to return to sport. We get you to 100%.

  • Sport Specific Testing - Not all sports are created equal. If your rehab team isn’t putting you through the correct functional and sports testing - you won’t be prepared.

  • Unrivaled Confidence - Research has shown that a high number of adults and athletes that return to sport lack the confidence they once had. We ensure you are more confident than ever.

There is a lot of BAD ADVICE Out There Regarding How To Return To Sport…

What’s False:

  • You won’t ever be the same and you will always notice limitation on the injured side

  • Just follow the Doctor’s timeline for return to sport

  • Just take some pain meds when you have a flare up, because they will happen

  • You just need to go to the gym more to get yourself back into shape and to feel confident again

The Truth is:

  • It’s not normal to have forever limitations - some of the best athletes in the world performed better after long rehabs

  • Timelines are suggestions - achieving all the specific return to sport guidelines/tests are the most important things to follow

  • Passive treatments aren’t enough. They reduces pain and swelling temporarily.

  • Your muscles are likely weak, but which ones? Most people try to strengthen their injury prone areas and not the actual issue.
