Are You A College Athlete Held Back By An Injury?

A Personal Message From Dr. Adam Shildmyer

  • Are you worried about losing practice time, missing games, or even losing your edge because of an injury that won’t go away?

  • Have you tried pain medications, resting, icing and passive modalities with only short-term relief?

  • Are you concerned about missing out on your chance at a potential career in professional sports?

  • Are you frustrated with previous health care providers who didn’t explain your recovery in a way that made sense - which left you wondering how to get back to playing at peak performance?

If You Answered “Yes” To Any Of These Questions, You Are In The Right Place!

Too many college athletes push through their injuries because they feel they have no other choice and don’t want to suffer the consequences of sitting out.

If you’re concerned about this happening - you’re definitely not alone - I hear this type of thing all the time. It also happened to me!

In fact, college athletes are some of the most common clients I treat at Vertical Sports Physical Therapy

“My experience with Adam was extremely positive and was a very important step in my process as an athlete. We came up with a goal and he worked me through what it was going to take to get back on the court quickly and at 100%. I’m still thankful to this day.”

There is a lot of BAD ADVICE Out There Regarding How To Handle Injuries For College Athletes…

What’s False:

  • Just “rest” and your injury will get better

  • Get some ice or heat on it and then you’ll be ready to get back out to practice tomorrow

  • Just take some pain meds or muscle relaxants and it will go away

  • To prevent injury you should just wait until you’re 100% to start training again

The Truth is:

  • Resting doesn’t change anything. It might make you feel better in the short term, but the pain will return and the injured area is now compromised.

  • Passive treatments aren’t enough. They reduces pain and swelling temporarily.

  • You don’t have to wait until you’re 100% to start training again. In fact, checking asymmetries and training through injuries is vital to successful outcomes.

Get Your Competitive Edge Back!

  • If you don’t choose the best provider for your personal health, you could end up losing your competitive edge or do treatments (like pain meds or surgery) that you could actually avoid.

  • Active Recovery is often even more important. It could be that you can continue to practice while properly rehabbing and strengthening the injury to ensure a return to peak performance.

  • In order to do that, you can’t just treat the pain - but you need a provider who is willing to figure out WHY the injury happened and what needs to be done in order to keep it from happening again.

  • Only then, will you get a permanent solution to your problems

Finally Get Rid Of Your Injury And Keep It From Coming Back!

You don’t have to sacrifice the sports you love over problems that can be fixed.

Let’s talk about how we can get you back in the game and performing your best yet!
